Intern Electric Distribution Planning (Electrical Engineering)

Location: Merrillville, Indiana; candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location. This is an onsite, 12-week summer internship starting in May 2027.

Salary: $18.80–$31.70 per hour.

What you will do

• Assist Distribution Planning Engineers with electric distribution system databases, studies, and daily planning activities.
• Evaluate existing electrical system equipment, utility system needs, equipment configurations, and project timing.
• Review new business load additions and distributed energy generators, including solar and wind customers.
• Use computer modeling and become familiar with CYME software to assess system adequacy and identify improvement needs.
• Analyze data and records while developing technical knowledge, critical thinking, and safe work practices under supervision.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future.
• Current student in an ABET-accredited, four-year engineering program, with at least two years of undergraduate study completed.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week during the summer 2027 program.
• Proficiency with PC applications; strong Python, Microsoft Excel, and Access skills are preferred.
• Effective verbal and written communication, flexibility, interpersonal skills, and safety consciousness.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
