Transmission System Planning Co-op (Electrical Power Systems)

Location: Hartford, Connecticut, United States. Opportunities are also available in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Visa sponsorship is not available; applicants must already have authorization to start employment in the United States.

Salary: $20.60–$31.35 per hour, depending on graduation year and student level.

What you will do

• Build and maintain electric transmission system models for planning studies.
• Collect and validate forecasted load data, equipment ratings, impedances, protection settings, and network topology.
• Support transmission impact studies across Eversource service territories and help develop study scopes and documentation.
• Assist with steady-state, stability, short-circuit, and electromagnetic transient analyses.
• Research disturbance events and support System Operations analyses.
• Document study results, prepare technical reports, and create training materials and presentations.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Electric Power Systems.
• Basic understanding of power-system modeling, load flow, and symmetrical components.
• Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Team-oriented approach, initiative, and willingness to learn in a technical environment.
• Coursework or project experience in transmission planning, power-system analysis, or electrical design is preferred.
• Must not require immigration-related visa sponsorship to start employment.

Nice to have

• Exposure to PSSE, ASPEN, PSCAD, or similar power-system analysis software.
• Experience applying NERC, NPCC, or ISO-NE planning standards and regulatory criteria.
