Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Hybrid, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the Oakville, Ontario or Guelph, Ontario office

Salary: CAD 130,000–160,000 annually, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

What you will do

• Lead geotechnical investigations for infrastructure projects, including subsurface exploration planning, field activities, drilling, and in-situ testing.
• Review laboratory results, assess data quality, and integrate field, geological, hydrogeological, and instrumentation data.
• Perform geotechnical assessments for foundations, earthworks, slopes, retaining structures, embankments, excavations, ground improvement, and construction staging.
• Conduct advanced numerical analyses and modelling using tools such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, FLAC, Rocscience Suite, Settle3D, LPile, and Group.
• Develop geotechnical design recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, tunnels, utilities, bridges, and other critical infrastructure.
• Prepare, review, and sign off on geotechnical investigation, interpretive, design basis, and data reports, as well as technical memoranda.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; a master’s degree specializing in geotechnical engineering is preferred.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing.
• At least 10 years of geotechnical consulting experience focused on infrastructure projects.
• Experience leading complex investigations and preparing interpretive reports for transportation, transit, municipal, water, energy, and heavy civil projects.
• Expertise in subsurface characterization, soil and rock mechanics, foundation engineering, earthworks, slope stability, groundwater assessment, construction geotechnics, and numerical modelling.
• Strong technical writing, communication, client-facing, and stakeholder engagement skills; valid unrestricted Class 5 or G driver’s licence.
