TL;DR
Senior Fluvial Geomorphologist (Water Resources and River Restoration): Managing and delivering fluvial geomorphology, applied water resources, and stream restoration projects with an accent on channel stability, erosion processes, sediment transport, and natural channel design. Focus on leading multidisciplinary teams, designing climate-resilient watercourse solutions, interpreting GIS and LiDAR datasets, and supporting regulatory, construction, and monitoring phases.

Location: Guelph, Mississauga, or London, Ontario, Canada; regular travel throughout Ontario required

Salary: CAD 110,000–160,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, and geographic location

What you will do

  • Manage and execute fluvial geomorphology, applied water resources, river restoration, and natural channel design projects.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and provide technical direction across planning, design, permitting, construction support, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Conduct geomorphic and hydraulic assessments of channel stability, erosion, sediment transport, scour potential, river response, and infrastructure risks.
  • Lead field investigations, data collection, spatial analysis, and interpretation of digital terrain models, aerial imagery, LiDAR, and GIS datasets.
  • Prepare technical reports, regulatory submissions, work plans, studies, recommendations, and project deliverables while providing senior technical review and quality assurance.
  • Develop client relationships, support proposals and business development, collaborate with stakeholders and regulatory agencies, and mentor junior and intermediate staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, earth science, physical geography, water resources engineering, environmental engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in fluvial geomorphology, river engineering, water resources engineering, or a related field, including leadership of complex studies and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Experience with channel stability assessments, sediment transport analyses, erosion evaluations, river restoration, natural channel design, regulatory requirements, and environmental permitting.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro, spatial datasets, and hydraulic, hydrologic, sediment transport, or related water resources models.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout Ontario and hold an unrestricted Class G driver’s licence.
