What you will do
- Research, design, and execute experiments involving wet chemical and dry plasma etching of advanced semiconductor materials.
- Investigate technical challenges involving chemical interactions, process development, and materials compatibility.
- Convert experimental concepts into reliable and repeatable laboratory workflows.
- Set up experiments, troubleshoot problems, and refine laboratory methods.
- Document experimental methods, results, and technical insights to support ongoing research and future process development.
Requirements
- Current student in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field with an emphasis on experimental chemistry.
- Strong foundation in chemistry principles, including reaction mechanisms, surface chemistry, and kinetics.
- Extensive hands-on chemistry laboratory experience, including independent experimental setup, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Ability to use AI-assisted tools, scientific literature, and technical resources to develop and refine experimental ideas while critically evaluating results.
- Ability to work on-site in Ottawa across laboratory and office environments.
- Latest citizenship and/or permanent residency information must be submitted to support compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations.
Nice to have
- Experience with semiconductor etching or microfabrication and cleanroom environments.
- Experience operating vacuum systems for etching or deposition.
- Experience with AFM, SEM, optical microscopy, or surface profilometry.
- Experience with Residual Gas Analysis or Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry.
