Lead Engineer - T&S Project Dev

Location: On-site in Binghamton, NY or Rochester, NY, United States

Salary: $116,640–$145,800 per year

What you will do

• Develop most new transmission and substation capital projects to conceptual design level for financial approval and handoff to execution.
• Assess reliability and infrastructure needs and define prioritized, system-wide solutions.
• Lead technical, investment, and decision-making oversight from project inception through construction.
• Review and approve project proposals through the Transmission System Review Group and support the long-term T&S capital investment portfolio.
• Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Planning, consultants, regulators, and ISOs.
• Mentor engineers, guide contractors, prepare technical reports, and present recommendations to executives and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
• 7+ years of practical experience across transmission and distribution power systems, including planning, engineering, construction, or operations.
• Knowledge of power-system planning, operations, engineering design, analytics, modeling, calculations, and engineering documentation.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory standards, including NERC, NPCC, ISO, and PUC requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical and regulatory matters to executives, regulators, and ISOs.
• Ability to work on-site in Binghamton or Rochester, New York.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineering License or MBA.
• Experience leading comprehensive T&S needs and solutions assessments.
• Experience developing innovative alternatives, investment justifications, and concise communications for senior leadership and regulators.
