Student Financial Aid Counselor II

What you will do

• Provide day-to-day financial aid counseling, case management, and advisement to students and parents.
• Guide students through FAFSA completion, document submission, verification, bills, refunds, financing options, and financial aid renewal.
• Conduct outreach through appointments, walk-ins, phone calls, email, text campaigns, workshops, and student events.
• Develop and deliver Financial Aid 101 workshops, financial literacy training, high school financial aid nights, and a non-credit synchronous and asynchronous financial literacy course.
• Collaborate with academic advising, Career Services, the Center for Student Success, and CARE leadership to coordinate integrated outreach and retention programming.
• Interpret policies, identify process improvements, and support compliance with financial aid and student records requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• At least one year of related higher education experience, including exposure to admissions, financial aid, or case management.
• Knowledge of financial aid counseling, verification, regulations, student records, and higher education outreach practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication, active listening, customer service, organization, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage high-volume work, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, and apply policies to individual cases.
• Employment is subject to a criminal history investigation and verification of credentials.

Nice to have

• Experience with university computer applications and advising or counseling techniques.
• Knowledge of university policies, student privacy laws, Banner, NSLDS, COD, CPS, Awards Management, or Blackbaud.
