Student Finance Advisor (Higher Education)

Location: Columbia, Maryland, USA; hybrid schedule with four in-office days per week, Monday–Thursday

What you will do

• Advise students on program costs, financial aid, funding options, and financial literacy throughout the student lifecycle.
• Support new student intake by reviewing education costs and establishing timelines for completing funding applications.
• Review student accounts and financial eligibility, adjusting financial plans when needed.
• Communicate with students and internal stakeholders through phone, email, SMS, video advising, and proactive outreach.
• Analyze student data to identify barriers to persistence or graduation, provide coaching, and make resource referrals.
• Document interactions accurately and collaborate with admissions and other departments to support students from inquiry through graduation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least one year of customer service or related experience required.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, prioritization, and independent-work skills.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, internet applications, and database software.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain NSLDS system access, including not being in default on Title IV federal aid.

Nice to have

• One year of higher education experience.
• Experience with student financial aid software.
