Student Financial Aid Counselor II (Evergreen)

Location: Prairie View, Texas, United States; full-time, staff position.

Research Compliance Office at the Texas A&M University System, with the role based at Prairie View A&M University’s Student Financial Aid department.

What you will do

• Provide day-to-day case management, advisement, and counseling to students and parents on financial aid programs, eligibility, affordability, education costs, campus resources, and payment options.
• Coordinate FAFSA completion, document submission, verification, renewals, refunds, and other application follow-up activities.
• Conduct outreach through appointments, walk-ins, phone calls, email, text campaigns, events, and other communication platforms.
• Deliver Financial Aid 101 workshops, financial literacy training, high school financial aid nights, and synchronous or asynchronous non-credit courses.
• Collaborate with Academic Advising, Career Services, the Center for Student Success, and CARE leadership on integrated outreach and retention programming.
• Partner with academic advisors to help students meet satisfactory academic progress requirements and retain financial aid.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least one year of related higher-education experience, including admissions and financial aid exposure or case management in a related field.
• Knowledge of financial aid counseling, verification, rules, regulations, student records, and higher-education customer service practices.
• Strong organizational, analytical, critical-thinking, decision-making, communication, active-listening, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage high-volume work, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, interpret policies accurately, and work independently or cooperatively.
• Knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet applications.

Nice to have

• Experience with Banner and third-party financial aid applications such as NSLDS, COD, CPS, Awards Management, or Blackbaud.
• Knowledge of university policies, procedures, advising techniques, and federal and state privacy laws governing student information.
• Knowledge of university-specific computer applications.
