Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote-first within the United States, with preference for candidates in Boston, Seattle, Los Angeles, or other cities with hirify.global offices. Due to export control requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents, or lawfully admitted refugees or asylees.

Salary: $165,000–$200,000 per year, plus potential annual incentive compensation, long-term incentives, and equity participation.

What you will do

• Design and implement RESTful APIs with OpenAPI specifications and auto-generated client SDKs using SQLAlchemy and PostgreSQL.
• Develop Celery and Redis ingestion pipelines that connect file storage, messaging, and email tools and transform unstructured inputs into structured engineering artifacts.
• Build agentic AI workflows with LangChain, LangGraph, and related frameworks for data extraction, risk detection, dependency analysis, and proactive coordination.
• Integrate Anthropic Claude, OpenRouter, and other LLM APIs with streaming, error handling, and cost optimization.
• Deploy and operate services on GCP using Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Memorystore, and Terraform.
• Write maintainable, well-tested code, participate in code reviews, and help establish backend engineering practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of production backend engineering experience, including 3+ years with Python.
• Strong experience with FastAPI or similar asynchronous Python web frameworks and PostgreSQL schema design, migrations, and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience with task queues and background processing such as Celery and Redis.
• Knowledge of API design, OIDC/JWT authentication patterns, service architecture, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Demonstrated use of AI coding tools such as Cursor, Copilot, or Claude.
• Must satisfy U.S. export control eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience in early-stage 0-to-1 startup environments.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs and building AI features with agent orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with GCP services, Terraform, data ingestion pipelines, and ETL workflows.
• Background in B2B SaaS, project management tools, workflow automation, hardware development, or engineering workflows.
