Senior Backend Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, CA, or New York City, NY

Salary: $240,000–$265,000 annual base salary, plus equity, bonus, and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

• Scale the core platform to support rapid growth and large-scale customers.
• Translate ambiguous business goals into clear, phased engineering plans with Product, Design, and go-to-market stakeholders.
• Establish coding standards, CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, reliability targets, and observability practices.
• Prototype and integrate third-party APIs, databases, model-serving platforms, and infrastructure vendors.
• Provide technical leadership through pairing, code reviews, mentoring, and removing engineering blockers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Deep hands-on expertise scaling and operating PostgreSQL, including partitioned and sharded schemas, index and query tuning, automated backups, observability, replication, and failover.
• Experience shipping high-impact, production-grade systems at scale.
• Customer-focused approach with the ability to prototype quickly, incorporate feedback, and address important edge cases.
• Collaborative, low-ego working style and a history of mentoring engineers.
