TL;DR
Electrical & FPGA Design Engineer (FPGA): Leading the design, development, integration, and testing of mixed analog/digital circuit card assemblies and FPGA-based hardware for NASA spaceflight programs with an accent on spacecraft instrumentation, avionics, and scientific payloads. Focus on VHDL FPGA development, circuit analysis, environmental qualification, formal design reviews, and technical leadership across the hardware lifecycle.

What you will do

  • Lead the design and development of mixed analog/digital electronic hardware for spaceflight applications.
  • Develop board-level architectures, schematics, component selections, verification plans, and technical documentation.
  • Develop and validate VHDL FPGA designs for radiation-tolerant and commercial FPGA architectures.
  • Perform circuit simulations, worst-case analysis, component derating, part stress analysis, and thermal assessments.
  • Support PCB layout, integration, troubleshooting, vibration testing, thermal-vacuum testing, and system-level verification.
  • Lead formal design reviews, interface with NASA customers and subcontractors, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience for Engineer V; 12+ years of progressively responsible experience for Engineer VI.
  • Experience designing mixed analog/digital circuit boards and developing hardware through requirements, qualification, and testing.
  • Experience with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence OrCAD, and LTSpice.
  • Experience with formal engineering documentation, test procedures, environmental testing, and technical reviews.
  • Engineer VI candidates must demonstrate technical leadership on complex aerospace or spaceflight hardware programs.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience with Libero, ModelSim, Active-HDL, Xilinx Vivado, and radiation-hardened FPGA devices.
  • Experience with spacecraft avionics, scientific instrumentation, sensors, and interfaces including RS-422, RS-485, I²C, SPI, UART, SpaceWire, PCIe, and JTAG.
  • Experience supporting NASA, DoD, or other government aerospace programs.
  • Active Secret security clearance.
