TL;DR
Deputy Chief Engineer – Avionics & Electronics Lead (Aerospace): Leading the architecture, design, integration, and verification of spacecraft avionics and electronic systems with an accent on command and data handling, payload processing, communications, power subsystems, and RF circuits. Focus on designing high-reliability flight electronics, organizing design reviews and verification activities, and guiding technical teams from requirements definition through flight and sustainment.

Location: Louisville, Colorado; must be local to the work location, with flexibility for occasional telework.

Salary: $102,815.97–$178,777.02 projected annual compensation range.

What you will do

  • Lead the architecture and development of spacecraft avionics covering command and data handling, payload processing, digital communications, electrical power, and RF communication circuits.
  • Contribute hands-on to avionics and electronics design while leading and mentoring engineering staff.
  • Own the technical direction, design excellence, integration, and verification of spacecraft electronics from requirements through flight.
  • Organize and chair architecture- and implementation-level design reviews, track review metrics, and ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Develop architecture documentation, module designs, test plans, and verification and validation methods.
  • Help establish avionics quality-assurance processes in collaboration with engineering leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical or computer engineering, plus the required professional experience: 8–10 years with a bachelor’s, 6–8 with a master’s, or 3–5 with a PhD.
  • Extensive experience designing high-reliability space and aerospace electronics across the full development lifecycle.
  • Experience leading avionics and electronics development teams as a technical lead.
  • Experience with aerospace requirements management tools such as DOORS or Jama and PCB design tools such as KiCad or Altium Designer.
  • Experience developing flight-standard electronics compliant with NASA GEVS, SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, or DO-254.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing architectures for a variety of space customers.
  • Experience designing embedded systems with SoC or FPGA devices.
  • FPGA design and verification experience with VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
  • Bare-metal or RTOS firmware development experience for microcontrollers.
