TL;DR
Electrical Hardware Design Engineer IV (Aerospace): Designing and testing high-reliability embedded electronics for military avionics and electromechanical systems with an accent on FPGA and processor interfaces, power switching, analog conversion, and MIL-STD-1553 bus integration. Focus on developing multi-layer PCB circuits, driving hardware from requirements through verification and validation, and resolving fabrication, assembly, and subsystem testing challenges.

Location: 100% onsite in Inglewood, California, United States. Some local and domestic supplier or customer travel may be required, with rare international travel depending on program demands.

Salary: $155,000–$205,000 per year, based on experience, skills, and education.

Company

hirify.global develops and manufactures military alternate mission equipment and high-reliability systems for aerospace, vehicle, and Department of Defense programs.

What you will do

  • Decompose system requirements into electronic subsystem requirements and define architectures, block diagrams, and I/O for embedded Line Replacement Units.
  • Design high-reliability circuits and multi-layer PCBs for electronic control units and embedded modules, including schematic capture, component selection, BOMs, and PCB layouts.
  • Develop peripheral circuits for FPGA- and ARM-based controllers, including solenoid and motor drivers, analog inputs, power protection, regulation, and discrete power switching.
  • Simulate and analyze circuits using tools such as LTSpice and QSpice, and oversee hardware assembly and rework documentation.
  • Define and execute board- and CCA-level verification and validation testing for prototype, engineering, and flight hardware.
  • Prepare design, test, manufacturing, and review documentation and support requirements, design, manufacturing readiness, and test readiness reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and at least 12 years of relevant design, analysis, and development experience.
  • Experience with end-to-end development of high-reliability flight electronics for complex electromechanical systems, preferably in military or commercial aviation.
  • Experience designing peripheral circuits around FPGA or ARM-based processor I/O and circuits for motor drivers, analog-to-digital conversion, power regulation, and switching.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553 bus architecture and physical and logical layer requirements.
  • Ability to perform laboratory testing, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical documentation through final integration.
  • Must be a U.S. person under ITAR export control requirements: a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, political asylee, or refugee. Proof of education and fluent written and spoken English are required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with DoD acquisition programs, aerospace systems, and military or high-reliability electronics.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-1553B, AS9100, MIL-STD-810, and other aerospace quality standards.
  • Experience with SPI, I2C, UART, DMA, CAN, processor local bus, LTSpice, QSpice, NI Multisim, WCA, EPSA, and FMECA.
  • Knowledge of airborne weapon systems or weapon carriage equipment and experience with SAP or other ERP systems.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work takes place across office, manufacturing and assembly, and laboratory test environments.
  • Collaboration with manufacturing partners, suppliers, customers, and major military prime contractors.
  • Potential for approximately 10% local or domestic travel; international travel is expected to be rare and infrequent.
  • Employment is classified as exempt.
