TL;DR
Rail Systems Project Manager 2 (Rail Signaling and Transportation Systems): Managing moderately complex rail systems projects from initiation through completion with an accent on schedules, budgets, multidisciplinary coordination, and compliance. Focus on integrating signaling, communications, control systems, procurement, testing, field installation, commissioning, and client delivery.

Location: Hybrid role based in Williamsburg, Virginia, with travel to various client and staff locations.

Salary: $90,000–$110,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Manage rail systems projects from initiation through completion, including scope, schedules, budgets, resources, risks, and corrective actions.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers, signal specialists, technicians, production staff, testing and commissioning personnel, and field teams.
  • Coordinate design, procurement, production, factory testing, field installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Act as the primary client contact and lead project meetings, technical reviews, and client presentations.
  • Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and railroad agencies while managing change orders and scope adjustments.
  • Review technical deliverables and project documentation for compliance with railroad standards, safety regulations, QA/QC requirements, and client specifications.

Requirements

  • 4–8 years of experience in integration or construction management, including at least 3 years in the rail industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of track circuits, wayside signals, switch machines, and grade crossing equipment.
  • Experience managing schedules, budgets, project resources, and field personnel.
  • Ability to read signal construction plan sets, submittals, RFIs, and other construction documents.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including meeting leadership and presentations.
  • Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel to various locations required.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Systems, or Electronic Engineering.
  • Construction Management or Business Administration degree combined with significant technical signaling experience.
  • PMP or similar certification.
  • Experience sharing signal standards with clients, FRA inspectors, railroad employees, and colleagues.
