Robotics Field Service Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: Chicago, IL or Bolingbrook, IL, United States. The role involves customer-site work, local travel up to 80%, and overnight travel up to 50%.

Salary: $29–$44 USD per hour. Typical annualized earnings range from $83,000–$126,000, depending on experience, hourly rate, and hours worked. Overtime is paid for hours over 40 per workweek according to applicable law.

What you will do

• Perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on robotic manufacturing cells.
• Respond to remote and on-site escalations, diagnose root causes, and restore production quickly.
• Provide hands-on technical support to customer operators, maintenance teams, plant managers, and site personnel.
• Monitor system performance using dashboards and fleet tools, and track service activity, assets, and spare parts in CMMS systems.
• Coordinate field schedules with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Document service work, participate in RCA sessions and audits, identify recurring failures, and escalate systemic reliability risks.

Requirements

• 3+ years of hands-on field service experience supporting robotic or industrial automation systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, PLC, and robotic control systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and pneumatic drawings.
• Experience using CMMS platforms to track and report maintenance activity.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including structured service documentation.
• Commitment to safety and disciplined field execution, including LOTO and industrial compliance.

Nice to have

• Experience with 6-axis robots from Fanuc, KUKA, Yaskawa, ABB, or Universal Robots.
• Experience with palletizing, case packing, pick-and-place, or conveyor systems.
• Background in food, beverage, packaging, CPG, or other high-speed manufacturing environments.
• Prior customer-facing field service experience.
• Spanish language proficiency.
