Design Release Engineer (Power Electronics)

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid work with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. Must be able to report to the local office.

What you will do

• Design, evaluate, and release onboard charging modules and 400Vdc/800Vdc power electronics for current and future vehicle programs.
• Define technical requirements, control interfaces, enable-disable conditions, voltage and current controls, sensor requirements, and communication specifications across LIN, CAN, and Automotive Ethernet.
• Coordinate with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, review technical designs and deliverables, approve supplier lists, and resolve integration and validation issues.
• Lead DFMEA, Design for Six Sigma, design reviews, root-cause investigations, warranty reduction activities, and complex design trade-offs.
• Coordinate component validation plans, functional high-voltage charging and discharging tests, bench testing, Buy-Off-Rides, and Design Integration Testing.
• Manage software release plans, Soft Part Release activities, module libraries, Engineering Change Requests, and delivery schedules.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, plus 3 years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of relevant experience.
• Relevant experience as a Design Release Engineer, Structural Engineer, Vehicle Safety Engineer, CAE Engineer, or in a related engineering role.
• At least 3 years of experience preparing Bills of Design and Statements of Requirements, conducting DFMEA and design reviews, and working through Engineering Change Management processes.
• Experience with engineering project management, engineering mechanics, electronics, physics, and manufacturing methods.
• Must be able to work from and report to the Warren, Michigan local office under the 3-days-in-office hybrid policy.
