Location: New England Eye Center - Brookline, Massachusetts; may require floating to satellite offices with personal transportation.
Pay range: $21.53–$26.91 per hour.

What you will do
- Collect patient histories, including symptoms, medications, allergies, and ocular and medical history.
- Perform vision assessments and screening procedures, including visual acuity, lensometry, refraction, keratometry, pupil evaluation, eye-pressure measurement, and drop instillation.
- Assist with diagnostic testing and ocular imaging, including OCT, topography, visual fields, and IOL Master testing.
- Prepare consent forms and assist physicians with in-office procedures.
- Prepare, clean, disinfect, calibrate, and maintain examination rooms, instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Facilitate patient flow, document examination information in the electronic health record, and may participate in clinical trials.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in a healthcare-related setting.
- Basic Life Support certification required, or certification must be obtained within three months of hire.
- Knowledge of eye terminology and basic ocular anatomy and physiology.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume, multispecialty clinic and physically assist elderly, visually impaired, and wheelchair-using patients.
Nice to have
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Completion of ophthalmic, optometric, or medical assistant training, or the AAO Home Study Course.
- Previous ophthalmic-practice experience.
- Experience with computer scheduling systems.
