Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (SolidWorks)

Location: USA - IL East Peoria Bldg A; office and shop environment with occasional international travel as needed.

Salary: $100,300–$160,500 USD annually, plus eligibility for variable compensation, including short-term and long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Design machinery and equipment, including shop, supplier fabrication, composite, and approval drawings.
• Interpret project specifications, plan schedules and material requirements, and ensure compliance with applicable engineering and industry codes.
• Monitor projects through completion, coordinating corrections, modifications, parts ordering, and production readiness.
• Review other engineers’ drawing packages for dimensional accuracy, functionality, parts, production sequence, weld information, and documentation quality.
• Perform calculations and analyses using spreadsheets and engineering software.
• Provide technical support to production, testing, sales, and electrical engineering, while training and assisting design engineers and detailers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
• Experience creating and modifying complex 3D models and complete 2D drawing sets in SolidWorks or Creo Parametric.
• Strong background in electrical power generation and thorough knowledge of the engine-generator set industry.
• Knowledge of diesel and natural-gas engines, weld processes including MIG, TIG, and Stick, and mechanical design practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication, independent judgment, accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Experience with structural sheet metal design, manufacturing, and wind-load calculations.
• Experience with Adobe Illustrator, graphic design, Arena or Windchill PLM, and AutoCAD.
• Experience supporting NRTL certification testing such as UL, Intertek, or TUV.
• Experience with new product introductions, supplier technical transfers, or the data center industry.
