Senior Mechanical Engineer (Defense Electronics)

Location: Portland, Oregon, US; physical attendance required and limited travel may be necessary.

Salary: $94,700–$125,000 per year, plus bonus.

What you will do

• Create conceptual designs, 3D models, part drawings, and assembly drawings using mechanical CAD.
• Manage engineering projects, product schedules, cost estimates, releases, and revisions.
• Develop prototypes, test plans, fixtures, and support thermal, vibration, shock, and EMI validation.
• Analyze failures, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Work with manufacturing, vendors, contractors, and internal or external testing facilities.
• Conduct design reviews and improve engineering standards, processes, and manufacturability.

Requirements

• 6+ years of advanced mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly design and 5 years of product design experience.
• Required experience with 3D CAD and SolidWorks.
• Experience designing sheet-metal, machined, and 3D-printed parts, including materials, finishes, fasteners, adhesives, and assembly methods.
• Knowledge of thermal, airflow, structural, fluid-dynamics, vibration, shock, and harsh-environment design considerations.
• Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems.
• Ability to create and review drawings, tolerances, bills of materials, test plans, and design documentation while managing multiple deadlines.

Nice to have

• Military product design experience and familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.
• Cable assemblies, wire harnesses, electrical terminations, and UL requirements for electronic assemblies.
• Injection molding, thermoforming, casting, and other high-volume production methods.
