TL;DR
Maintenance Technician - Watson (Petroleum Pipeline Systems): Maintaining, repairing, calibrating, and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, electronic, and instrumentation equipment for pipeline stations and terminals with an accent on pumps, valves, meters, tank systems, and SCADA interfaces. Focus on diagnosing complex equipment faults, maintaining DOT records, supporting commissioning and regional projects, and responding to 24-hour operational emergencies.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite

Salary: USD $47.00–$61.00 per hour, plus a discretionary annual incentive plan.

What you will do

  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, align, and calibrate mechanical, electrical, electronic, and instrumentation equipment at pipeline stations and terminals.
  • Work with pumps, motors, valves, meters, tank gauging systems, pressure and temperature gauges, SCADA equipment, PLC-based controllers, switchgear, substations, and safety systems.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance, lubrication activities, equipment inspections, and maintenance documentation.
  • Maintain records required by the Department of Transportation and keep accurate CMV logs.
  • Support regional and corporate engineering projects, including pre-operational testing, startup, commissioning, and contractor coordination.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to other technicians and act as a floating technician across locations when needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, technical school degree, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with installation, maintenance, and repair of refined petroleum pipeline systems and station or terminal equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, mechanical drawings, and aerial strip maps.
  • Current, valid state driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and ability to pass the Commercial Motor Vehicle physical.
  • Ability to pass Operator Qualification requirements and comply with applicable company, state, and federal certifications or training.
  • Must be physically able to work outdoors, climb tanks, lift equipment, enter confined spaces, and perform manual labor in varying weather conditions.

Nice to have

  • Experience with construction contractors, pipeline inspection, petroleum storage and dispensing operations, or pipeline hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of cathodic protection, piping, valves, pressures, pipeline operations, and storage tank inspections, alarms, and sampling.
  • TWIC card or ability to obtain one if required at the work location.
