Construction Inspector I

Location: Memphis, Tennessee, and surrounding West Tennessee areas; travel to work sites within a 2-hour radius of Memphis is required.

Salary: USD $23.03–$42.00 per hour, depending on experience, education, skills, geography, and other factors.

What you will do

• Monitor on-site construction activities and verify compliance with plans, specifications, and contract provisions.
• Maintain detailed records of contractor operations, project events, and schedule impacts.
• Prepare daily work reports using TDOT systems and standard forms.
• Sample and test construction materials and completed work according to TDOT procedures.
• Record samples and test results in TDOT LIMS and communicate effectively with project team members.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five years of heavy construction experience, preferably in roadway or bridge construction.
• Ability to travel to and inspect work sites within a 2-hour radius of Memphis, Tennessee.
• Ability to work independently and accurately.
• Familiarity with TDOT standard forms, procedures, and daily work reporting is required.
• Ability to obtain required certifications after hire, including 10-Hour OSHA Construction Safety, Work-Zone Traffic Control/Flagging, TDOT Concrete Field Technician or ACI Grade 1, and TDOT Aggregate Technician.
