Senior Electrical Power Operations Engineer

Location: Upton, New York, United States; onsite at hirify.global. Full-time schedule is typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional nights, weekends, extended hours, and emergency outage support.

Salary: $129,850–$210,767 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Design, operate, maintain, and upgrade medium- and low-voltage electrical transmission and distribution systems, substations, and DC controls.
• Develop electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, contract specifications, maintenance plans, outage plans, and as-built documentation.
• Perform load studies, fault current calculations, system analysis, relay coordination, equipment testing, commissioning, and start-up problem resolution.
• Respond to electrical issues and outages, provide technical guidance, and conduct root cause analysis for systems above 600V.
• Coordinate with internal engineering, facilities, science, and operations groups, external utilities, contractors, and collective bargaining staff.
• Support capital projects, utility master planning, budgets, safety training, and compliance with NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 10 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering, preferably in a campus, utility, or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, protective relaying, power system analysis, and systems ranging from 69kV and 13.8kV to 480V and 208V.
• Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving electrical design documents, control schematics, short-circuit and voltage-drop calculations, and underground utility drawings.
• Familiarity with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and electrical system documentation.
• Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English, hold a valid New York State driver’s license, work in confined spaces and at heights, and support occasional off-hours outages or maintenance.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 15 or more years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer license.
• Experience with electrical SCADA systems and substation maintenance equipment, including breakers, transformers, and battery systems.
• Experience operating electrical systems for chilled water, steam, water supply, or treatment plants.
