System Operator Associate (Power Systems)

Location: New Albany, Ohio, United States; onsite role with a twelve-hour uninterrupted rotating shift schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Salary: $74,551–$99,401 per year. Compensation data also lists a range of $74,551.00–$93,188.50.

What you will do

• Assist with real-time operation of transmission systems and distribution equipment in coordination with the AEP System Control Center and neighboring utilities.
• Monitor and regulate transmission voltage levels, real and reactive power flows, equipment loadings, metering, communications, and weather information.
• Prepare switching orders and safety tags for equipment maintenance, repair, replacement, and construction.
• Assist in directing routine and emergency switching operations and restoring equipment and customers to service.
• Maintain logs of operational events, transactions, and station entry and exit activity.
• Operate and observe SCADA and associated functions, reporting malfunctions for corrective action.

Requirements

• Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field, or a high school diploma plus two years of experience demonstrating the ability to operate a power system.
• Valid state driver license required.
• Ability to work under pressure, analyze information, and communicate instructions clearly and concisely.
• Ability to report promptly to the worksite during emergency events and work onsite in New Albany, Ohio.
• Ability to travel occasionally and work safely in potentially hazardous situations.
• Completion of required company training and testing within established time frames is required.

Nice to have

• One to two years of experience in substation operation, protective relaying, or distribution dispatching.
