Senior Engineer - Protection & Control (Power Systems)

Location: On-site in Rochester or Binghamton, New York, United States

Salary: $96,400–$120,500 annually, depending on experience.

Operates electric delivery infrastructure and supports transmission and substation engineering projects.

What you will do

• Design relay settings and perform relay coordination analysis for electric transmission and substation protection systems.
• Lead engineering contractors and consultants delivering protection system settings for capital construction projects.
• Analyze disturbance event operations and prepare fault analysis reports with corrective actions and lessons learned.
• Lead NERC compliance programs for substation assets and act as a subject matter expert during audits.
• Collaborate with project teams to resolve protection and control system issues.
• Represent the organization on regional and national committees.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or engineering technology.
• At least 5 years of engineering experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer or eligibility for certification.
• Experience with ASPEN OneLiner, SEL and GE relay programming, IEC 61850, and protection coordination analysis.
• Knowledge of power system analysis, protection fundamentals, FERC, NERC, NPCC, and state regulations.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and work on-site in New York.

Nice to have

• At least 3 years of experience specifically in Protection & Control.
