Engineer, Protection and Controls (Hybrid Schedule)

Location: Berlin, Connecticut, United States; hybrid schedule. Travel to operating districts, substations, and generation facilities is required, including support during emergency restoration assignments.

Annual salary: $100,490–$111,660, with potential incentive eligibility.

What you will do

• Design new and modified protection and control systems for electric transmission and distribution facilities.
• Develop, calculate, and document settings and logic for protective relays, logic processors, feeder reclosers, and switches.
• Perform overcurrent and distance coordination studies using fault simulation software and system models.
• Analyze protection system operations, disturbance events, relay records, and digital fault recorder data.
• Collaborate with planning, operations, field, substation engineering, project management, and maintenance teams.
• Perform peer reviews and support storm and emergency system restoration activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a focus on electric power systems engineering is preferred.
• At least 3 years of related Electrical Engineering experience.
• Experience with protection and control systems, including relay settings and protection scheme design.
• Experience with overcurrent and distance coordination studies using ASPEN OneLiner or equivalent software.
• Experience analyzing relay and digital fault recorder event records.
• Experience designing and installing protection and control schemes using IEC 61850.
