Senior Engineer, Protection and Controls (D) (Hybrid Schedule)

Location: Hybrid schedule in Berlin, Connecticut, United States. Travel to operating districts, substations, generation facilities, and locations inside and outside the state is required. Emergency restoration assignments may require work outside normal hours and locations.

Salary: $129,450–$143,830 annually, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Review proposed changes to electric facilities and ensure compliance with protection system standards.
• Create Protection and Control designs and specify materials for new or modified systems.
• Develop, calculate, and document settings and logic for protective relays, logic processors, feeder reclosers, and switches.
• Perform coordination studies using fault simulation and ASPEN OneLiner or equivalent modeling software.
• Analyze protection system operations, relay records, and disturbances to support troubleshooting and system restoration.
• Lead project teams, perform peer checks, collaborate with planning and operations groups, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a focus on electric power systems is preferred.
• At least five years of related experience.
• Experience with overcurrent and distance coordination studies using ASPEN OneLiner or equivalent.
• Experience performing post-event analysis using relay and digital fault recorder records.
• Thorough knowledge of transmission and distribution protective relaying principles and methodologies.

Nice to have

• Experience designing and installing Protection and Control schemes using IEC 61850.
• Professional Engineer license.
