NY - Distribution Planning Engineer (ALL LEVELS)

Location: In-office work in Rochester or Binghamton, New York, United States. Relocation support is provided.

Salary: $101,400–$160,000 annual base salary, depending on experience and location. Sign-on bonus available.

What you will do

• Perform distribution studies covering voltage, thermal loading, N-1 contingencies, power factor, reliability, resiliency, and capacity.
• Analyze complex distributed energy resource and new customer load interconnections across multiple voltage levels.
• Identify distribution system deficiencies using established criteria and utility engineering practices.
• Recommend and design distribution automation and resiliency solutions aligned with program objectives.
• Improve the precision and efficiency of distribution planning and develop expertise in GIS, ArcFM, SAP, and load data systems.
• Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and industry peers; mentor engineers and assist with storm restoration efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required.
• 2–15 years of professional industry experience preferred, with opportunities available across levels.
• Knowledge of power system studies and interpretation of study assumptions and results, including power flow, DER, voltage, contingency, short circuit, reliability, resiliency, and distribution automation analysis.
• Proficiency with power system analytics tools such as CYME, PSS/E, or ASPEN.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate across departments, provide technical leadership, and mentor engineers.
• Applicants must comply with applicable U.S. immigration requirements to work in the country.

• Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.
