Staff or Senior Distribution Modeling Engineer (Power Systems)

What you will do

• Maintain current distribution power-flow models as network data and operating conditions change.
• Develop modeling standards with model users for interconnection and planning studies, ensuring consistent and repeatable practices.
• Validate models, resolve upstream data-quality issues, and collaborate with the data science team on ETL workflows in Databricks.
• Perform distribution hosting capacity analysis using EPRI DRIVE and publish distribution system capacity maps.
• Support distribution system plans, regulatory filings, and grid modernization initiatives including beneficial electrification, non-wire alternatives, proactive grid upgrades, and dispatchable distributed generation.
• Coordinate multiple engineering projects, provide technical leadership and mentoring, and act as a technical contact for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Staff level: 2+ years of relevant engineering experience; Senior level: 5+ years with EIT/FE or 7+ years without EIT/FE.
• The role is based in Maple Grove, Minnesota, United States.
• Ability to apply engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to projects of moderate to large size and complexity.
• EIT/FE is strongly preferred for Staff level and required for Senior level; PE registration may be required depending on business need.
• Ability to prepare technical documentation, calculations, reports, standards, evaluations, and recommendations.

Nice to have

• Experience with distribution system planning and interconnection studies.
• Experience with CYME, Synergi, OpenDSS, or similar distribution modeling tools.
• Electrical Engineering degree with a power systems specialization.
• Programming or scripting experience with Python, SQL, or similar tools.
• Familiarity with power system data models and standards such as the Common Information Model.
