Distribution System Operations Real-Time Reliability Coordinator (DER/DERA)

Location: On-site in New Albany, Ohio, United States. Must reside within or be willing to relocate within two hours of the reporting location if required. Rotating shifts, on-call responsibilities, callouts, and occasional travel for training may be required.

Salary: $74,551–$128,688 per year, depending on coordinator level.

What you will do

• Monitor, assess, and communicate real-time impacts of distributed energy resources and aggregations on distribution system reliability.
• Evaluate voltage, loading, protection coordination, backfeed, operating limits, and emerging reliability risks.
• Coordinate with distribution control centers, the system control center, transmission, engineering, planning, applications, and external stakeholders.
• Support switching, restoration, planned work, grid services, voltage support, load management, and resiliency operations.
• Perform real-time and look-ahead reliability assessments and contingency analyses.
• Maintain operational records and improve DERMS, ADMS, distribution automation, FLISR, and Volt/VAR processes, tools, and documentation.

Requirements

• Two-year technical degree in electrical or electronic engineering, or a high school diploma plus two years of civil or military power-system operating experience.
• At least six months of relevant experience for the Coordinator level, two years for Senior, or four years for Principal, in distribution operations, transmission operations, dispatching, system operations, reliability coordination, DER operations, or a related utility operations capacity.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operations environment, communicate clearly, follow instructions, and make sound decisions during critical system conditions.
• Must successfully complete required training, testing, qualification, and progression requirements, including recommended results from the HireVue Dispatcher Worker Virtual Job Tryout.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Knowledge of DERs, DERAs, virtual power plants, grid operations, real-time protection and control, cybersecurity, and DER communications is required or relevant to the role.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with wholesale energy markets, RTO/ISO operations, FERC Order 2222, overcurrent coordination, islanding strategies, and evolving DER operational requirements.
• NERC, EPRI, or RTO/ISO certifications may be required as business and industry requirements evolve.
