Electrical Engineer (FPGA)

Location: Onsite in Upton, New York, United States. The role requires support for accelerator operations, including off-hours response to calls for a 24/7 facility. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and able to obtain and maintain a DOE UPIV credential.

Salary: $113,050–$163,617 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

What you will do

• Maintain, upgrade, test, and provide engineering support for beam position monitors and other accelerator diagnostics instrumentation.
• Support the design, fabrication, integration, implementation, and troubleshooting of electronics systems.
• Develop support code and applications in collaboration with software programmers.
• Debug and repair existing hardware, identify failure modes, and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate with engineers, technicians, scientific staff, and technical experts across groups.
• Plan work for scheduled maintenance and shutdown activities while following applicable safety procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 7 years of experience designing, fabricating, integrating, and implementing electronics systems.
• Experience with FPGA firmware development using VHDL or Verilog.
• Knowledge of at least one higher-level programming language, such as Python, C++, or MATLAB.
• Working knowledge of digital and analog circuit design, test and measurement equipment, schematics, and technical procedures.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S., willingness to support off-hours accelerator operations, and ability to meet onsite physical and credentialing requirements.

Nice to have

• Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and 10 or more years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Xilinx ISE, Xilinx Vivado, Altera Quartus, FPGA IP cores, or Xilinx ZYNQ.
• Knowledge of PLC-based subsystems, fiber-optic transceivers, RS-232, RS-485, Modbus, GPIB, EPICS, CS-Studio/Phoebus, and revision control.
• Experience with PCB and schematic tools, LabVIEW, Linux/UNIX, or related engineering software.
