What you will do

• Assist with locomotive and railcar movements through switching, flagging, coupling, uncoupling, and brake setting.
• Plan railcar movements and direct locomotive operators using appropriate radio signals.
• Set track switches, set out railcars, and pick up railcars according to operational requirements.
• Monitor assigned tracks, equipment, and work areas for hazards, obstructions, malfunctions, and defective equipment.
• Assess railcar types and loading status to estimate braking and stopping distances.
• Provide point protection and maintain awareness around motorists, pedestrians, mobile equipment, and crane operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience.
• Must be able to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
• Ability to read and understand standard operating procedures and complete required checklists.
• Clear communication with coworkers and locomotive operators, sustained focus, and constant situational awareness.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme cold and hot conditions and occasionally lift 50–100 pounds.
