Railroad Safety Flagger NS South

Location: NC, with routine and extensive travel across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee; overnight stays are required.

What you will do

• Provide roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks.
• Coordinate job sites, communicate with train dispatchers and engineers, and authorize trains and on-track equipment to proceed through protected limits.
• Conduct daily job briefings and ensure roadway workers follow railroad safety requirements.
• Prepare job setup forms, daily work reports, invoices, and other required electronic documentation.
• Place warning and stop signs, install derails and locking devices, and handle equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds.
• Complete recurring safety classes, qualification training, and ongoing communication with RWIC supervisors and managers.

Requirements

• 20 years of relevant railroad experience as a former NS RWIC, STI, ATS, foreman, or higher, or 20 years as an RWIC.
• For non-former NS RWIC candidates: 20 years of RWIC service with a Class I or Class II freight railroad.
• Ability to complete the physical demands of the role and warn roadway workers of approaching trains.
• Knowledge of on-track safety procedures, radio communication, job briefings, railroad signage, derails, and locking devices.
• Proficiency with email, text messaging, and standard office applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Successful background checks, drug and alcohol testing, classroom and field training, and required assessments are mandatory.
