Postdoc in Neutrino Physics (LArTPC)

Location: Upton, New York, United States. The role includes travel to SURF, FNAL, and CERN for DUNE service and prototype work.

Salary: $80,800–$84,000 per year.

What you will do

• Develop physics analyses and simulations for ProtoDUNE, DUNE Phase I, and next-generation LArTPC experiments.
• Develop neutron-capture-on-argon tagging, supernova relic neutrino searches, neutrino oscillation measurements, and DUNE Phase II sensitivity studies.
• Perform event reconstruction, energy calibration, and physics data analysis.
• Lead photon detector simulation, detector and cryogenic readout prototyping, integration, assembly, cryogenic testing, and efficiency measurements.
• Upgrade and maintain the BNL liquid-argon cryogenic test platform in collaboration with laboratory scientists.
• Present research to physicists, engineers, and managers and publish results in scientific journals.

Requirements

• PhD in experimental particle physics, nuclear physics, or a related field by the start of employment.
• Strong interest in experimental instrumentation R&D and demonstrated experience with simulation and physics data analysis.
• Strong programming skills in modern languages such as C++ and Python.
• Ability to conduct research independently and as part of a research group.
• Track record of publishing research in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
• Initial appointment is for two years and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Uncleared Personal Identity Verification credential.

Nice to have

• Experience with photon detector technologies such as SiPMs and light guides.
• Hands-on experience with cryogenic readout electronics.
• Familiarity with noble-liquid detector technology.
