What you will do

• Develop an independent research project or contribute to an established project on rapid evolutionary dynamics.
• Investigate viruses, bacteria, and cancer progression, including how spatial organization shapes evolutionary outcomes.
• Develop and apply approaches using spatial data to understand evolutionary histories.
• Write scientific manuscripts describing research findings.
• Attend local and national meetings to present findings, learn about advances, and build a scientific network.
• Develop an independent research portfolio and mentor junior scientists.

Requirements

• PhD in life sciences, computer science, or applied mathematics.
• Experience with Python, R, or another scripting language.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively, learn new techniques, and contribute to a research team.
• Meticulous approach to work and strong commitment to research integrity.
• Ability to work at the University of Washington location in Seattle, Washington.

Nice to have

• Focus on genetics, genomics, evolutionary biology, or computational biology.
• Experience with mathematical modeling.
• Experience analyzing next-generation sequencing data.
