TL;DR
Mid-Level Physicist (Radiation Transport and Nuclear Weapon Systems): Performing scientific analysis and computational modeling of radiation environments and their effects on Navy weapon systems and personnel with an accent on radiation transport, hardening and vulnerability, electromagnetic pulse, and experimental testing. Focus on developing and validating simulation models, correlating calculations with experimental data, and implementing physics-based analysis software in C++ and Python.
Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States; no remote or telework allowed
Projected compensation: $91,706.25–$159,459.38 per year

What you will do
- Perform scientific analysis and computational modeling of fratricide, normal, hostile, and intrinsic radiation environments and their effects on weapon systems and personnel.
- Conduct radiation transport, hardening and vulnerability, and electromagnetic pulse calculations.
- Support system planning, requirements definition, assessment, qualification, and test planning for current and future Navy weapon systems.
- Develop software code, technical reports, documentation, briefings, and presentations for Navy deliverables.
- Verify and validate simulation models, correlate modeling results with experimental data, and perform uncertainty and response analyses.
- Interface with government customers and travel to meetings and radiation, electrical, and mechanical test facilities as required.
Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
- BS in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related STEM field with 5–7 years of experience; MS with 3–5 years; or PhD with 0–2 years.
- Experience with experimental design, execution, and modeling.
- Experience selecting and applying physical models to formal analysis of physical systems.
- Experience writing technical reports or articles and presenting results to technical subject-matter experts and government customers.
Nice to have
- PhD in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- Radiation transport experience involving neutrons, photons, or electrons.
- Experience with C++, Fortran, Python, MCNP, or Attila.
- Experience creating code-to-code interfaces, post-processing routines, verification and validation practices, and statistical analysis of experimental data.
- Knowledge of object-oriented design and strategic weapon systems; ability to lead technical teams.
