TL;DR
Physicist for Radar Systems (Radiation Modeling/C++/Python): Analyzing, modeling, testing, and enhancing current and future Navy radar systems with an accent on radiation transport, electromagnetic pulse calculations, vulnerability analysis, and simulation validation. Focus on correlating computational models with experimental data, developing physics-based software, and supporting radiation, electrical, and mechanical testing.
Location: Middletown, Rhode Island, United States; must be local to the work location. On-site support at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center is required, with occasional telework and approximately 10% travel.
Projected annual compensation: $71,419.39–$124,184.46.

What you will do
- Analyze, design, assess, test, and enhance current and future Navy radar systems.
- Perform radiation transport, hardening and vulnerability, electromagnetic pulse, and hostile nuclear environment calculations.
- Build computational models, compare results with experimental data, and perform verification and validation.
- Develop maintainable physics-based software, technical reports, documentation, briefings, and presentations.
- Support radiation, electrical, and mechanical test planning and execution.
- Interface with government customers and collaborate with software engineers, scientists, and engineers.
Requirements
- BS degree in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related STEM field with 2–4 years of experience, or an MS degree with 0–2 years of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Experience in experimental design, execution, and modeling.
- Experience selecting and applying physical models for formal analysis of physical systems.
- Experience writing technical reports or articles and presenting results to technical experts and government customers.
- Experience with scientific and engineering simulation software and object-oriented programming languages.
Nice to have
- Radiation transport experience involving neutrons, photons, or electrons.
- Experience with C++, Fortran, Python, MCNP, or Attila.
- Experience developing code-to-code interfaces, post-processing routines, verification and validation practices, uncertainty quantification, or statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of strategic weapon systems and object-oriented design.
