What you will do

  • Lead the technical systems engineering and integration of the Electron-Ion Collider, including electron and hadron accelerators, storage rings, beam lines, and supporting systems.
  • Own top-level technical requirements, allocate them to subsystems, maintain traceability, and control baseline changes.
  • Define and resolve technical, functional, and organizational interfaces across RF, controls, instrumentation, mechanical, magnet, electrical, vacuum, and design groups.
  • Establish and oversee system verification and validation plans, methods, acceptance criteria, and lifecycle processes.
  • Serve as the systems engineering technical authority during DOE Critical Decision reviews, design reviews, safety reviews, and external advisory reviews.
  • Manage and supervise the EIC Systems Engineering Team and support project documentation, performance tracking, cost evaluations, and commissioning readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related discipline.
  • At least 15 years of relevant technical experience, including 5 years in a senior engineering role.
  • Experience managing, supervising, and coordinating scientific, engineering, and technical staff working on complex systems and equipment.
  • Experience across specification, design, procurement, fabrication, construction, testing, installation, commissioning, and operation of complex systems.
  • Experience working in a particle accelerator environment with scientists, engineers, and technicians.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Uncleared Personal Identity Verification credential is required. A valid driver’s license is also required.

Nice to have

  • Project management experience, formal project management training, or PMP certification.
  • Familiarity with DOE Order 413.3B and the Critical Decision process.
  • Particle accelerator operations, installation, maintenance, or systems interface experience.
  • Professional Engineer license.
