Lead Network Engineer

Location: Richmond, VA or Lynchburg, VA, United States. Hybrid work is required for candidates residing within 50 miles of either office, with in-office days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Core working hours target 9am–5pm EST.

Salary: $120,900–$187,000 national base salary range, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus incentive plan.

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, lifecycle management, and modernization of enterprise networks across data centers, campuses, cloud, WAN, and remote-access environments.
• Design and optimize resilient routing, switching, wireless, Internet, cloud, and hybrid networking solutions using BGP, OSPF, and related technologies.
• Lead complex upgrades, migrations, architecture reviews, capacity planning, and infrastructure scalability initiatives.
• Resolve critical incidents, major outages, and complex performance issues while improving monitoring, observability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Implement secure access, segmentation, firewall, SASE/SSE, SD-WAN, and Zero Trust networking solutions in partnership with Information Security.
• Develop network automation with scripting and infrastructure-as-code, mentor engineers, and coordinate with operations teams, vendors, and managed service providers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, network architecture, or infrastructure engineering.
• Advanced enterprise routing and switching expertise, including Cisco Catalyst and Nexus platforms.
• Strong knowledge of BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, SD-WAN, DNS, NTP, DHCP, IPAM, and network segmentation.
• Experience with enterprise firewalls, preferably Palo Alto Networks, and cloud networking in Azure and/or AWS.
• Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, or Ansible, plus strong troubleshooting, communication, leadership, and cross-team influence skills.

Nice to have

• CCNP, CCIE, AWS Advanced Networking Specialty, or equivalent certification.
• Experience with Prisma Access or similar cloud-delivered security platforms, NAC, microsegmentation, and Zero Trust architectures.
• Experience with network automation frameworks, Infrastructure as Code, DevOps practices, and enterprise monitoring platforms.
• Knowledge of NIST CSF, CIS Controls, PCI-DSS, and ISO 27001.
• Experience leading technical teams, project delivery efforts, or engineering workstreams across distributed, multi-site environments.
