Liability Senior Counsel

Location: Walnut Creek, California, United States

Annual base salary: $132,800–$219,100, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Independently manage higher-exposure insurance defense cases and complex litigation matters through trial and appeal.
• Try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions using advanced litigation and trial skills.
• Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other substantive documents.
• Attend hearings, court events, depositions, and other appointments while collaborating with expert witnesses and consultants.
• Advise insured clients and Claims partners on case strategy, provide legal training, and maintain strong business relationships.
• Mentor attorneys and legal support staff, support office initiatives, and use case management technology and automation.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney in insurance defense litigation.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state where representation is required.
• Proven experience handling jury trials, hearings, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings.
• Strong oral and written advocacy, legal research, negotiation, decision-making, and case analysis skills.
• Valid driver's license may be required depending on the location.
