Litigation Counsel

Location: Hybrid schedule with three days per week in office required; based in Bethesda, MD, Cleveland, OH, or New York, NY

Annual salary: $135,300–$235,750

What you will do

• Advise the Claims organization on complex claims, coverage issues, bad faith matters, and extra-contractual allegations.
• Conduct factual and legal research and analysis.
• Contribute to trial strategy and preparation, including case evaluation, legal and business risk analysis, witness preparation, and coordination with outside counsel.
• Develop and deliver internal presentations on legal issues and related projects.
• Advise leadership on pending claims-related litigation, emerging issues, and litigation trends.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 5–7 years of litigation management experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
• Experience handling bad faith or extra-contractual litigation against an insurance company.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, research, writing, and communication skills.
• Trial and/or appellate experience and the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Background in auto insurance coverage and litigation.
• Experience as Claims Counsel or Claims Attorney at an insurance company.
• Experience working with cross-functional legal and non-legal teams.
