Medical Assistant I

Location: College Station, Texas, United States; onsite, Monday through Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm. Occasional after-hours duties may be required.

What you will do

• Provide direct patient care and support communication between patients and providers.
• Measure and document vital signs, obtain medical histories, prepare patients, and provide basic education.
• Assist or chaperone clinicians during examinations and procedures, including injections, medication administration, screenings, EKGs, specimen handling, nebulizer treatments, wound care, and splint fitting.
• Clean, disinfect, sterilize, calibrate, maintain, and stock clinical equipment, instruments, exam rooms, and patient care areas.
• Document histories, consent signatures, procedures, and laboratory collections in the electronic medical record.
• Answer calls, coordinate appointment changes, communicate with the care team, and report inventory or equipment needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of relevant healthcare customer service experience, including medical reception or patient care in a medical office, hospital, nursing home, or home health setting.
• Medical Assistant certification or proof of registration for examination through ARMA, AAMA, NHA, or NAHP is required before the start date.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification within six months of employment.
• Knowledge of basic medical techniques, electronic medical records, office applications, confidentiality, organization, prioritization, and customer service.
• FERPA and HIPAA training is required upon employment and must be completed on a recurring basis.

Nice to have

• Two years of experience in a medical office, outpatient primary care clinic, hospital, nursing home, or home health setting.
• Experience in a college healthcare environment.
• Completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
