Environmental Compliance Representative (Environmental Engineering)

Location: Fully onsite at hirify.global in Upton, New York, United States

Salary: $118,000–$130,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

What you will do

• Serve as the primary environmental liaison for assigned Laboratory organizations.
• Provide technical guidance on federal, state, local, DOE, and Laboratory environmental requirements.
• Review laboratory activities, engineering designs, maintenance operations, construction projects, facility modifications, and operational changes to establish environmental controls.
• Coordinate with subject matter experts on hazardous waste, air emissions, water quality, chemical and petroleum storage, spill prevention, permitting, pollution prevention, and natural and cultural resources.
• Conduct field inspections, compliance assessments, work observations, design reviews, regulatory inspections, and audits.
• Respond to environmental incidents, support investigations and corrective actions, and participate in the Environmental Protection Division Spill Response Team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, chemistry, geology, or a closely related technical discipline.
• At least three years of progressively responsible experience in environmental compliance, environmental engineering, or a related technical field.
• Working knowledge of EPA RCRA and NYSDEC hazardous waste regulations, with experience in one or more programs such as CAA, CWA, NEPA, TSCA, or FIFRA.
• Ability to identify compliance issues, evaluate potential impacts, recommend practical solutions, and communicate effectively with technical, operational, construction, contractor, and regulatory personnel.
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods, lift up to 30 pounds, and use a ladder.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Uncleared Personal Identity Verification credential is required.

Nice to have

• Seven or more years of relevant environmental compliance or environmental engineering experience.
• Experience independently supporting scientific, engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction organizations.
• Experience with inspections, assessments, incident investigations, work planning reviews, technical reports, regulatory documentation, and compliance correspondence.
• Professional certification such as CHMM, PE, or another relevant environmental credential.
