Environmental Specialist (Environmental Compliance)

Location: Newark, Delaware, United States; onsite at the hirify.global Discovery Hub on the University of Delaware STAR campus.

Salary: $85,801–$134,064 annually, plus a 6% annual bonus target.

What you will do

• Maintain environmental compliance systems, processes, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
• Prepare, review, and submit regulatory and corporate reports covering EPCRA, air emissions, wastewater, hazardous waste, and sustainability.
• Conduct environmental applicability determinations and compliance assessments for operations, projects, and process changes.
• Lead and support environmental audits, inspections, and incident investigations, including corrective actions.
• Monitor environmental performance metrics and communicate findings to support compliance and decision-making.
• Support hazardous waste management and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical or scientific discipline.
• 3–5 years of environmental experience, preferably in R&D, laboratory, or manufacturing environments.
• Working knowledge of air compliance programs and environmental reporting requirements.
• Familiarity with environmental management systems such as RCMS, RC14001, or ISO 14001.
• Knowledge of hazardous waste characterization and hazardous waste storage area requirements.
• Immigration sponsorship, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, and TN sponsorship, is not currently available.

Nice to have

• Experience with environmental audits, compliance assessments, incident investigations, and regulatory agency interactions.
• Knowledge of Delaware and Maryland environmental regulations, air and wastewater permitting, lab packing, hazardous material and waste shipments, and DOT classifications.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and enterprise systems; Python or R programming experience is a plus.
