Flight Test Engineer - SME (Aerospace)

Location: Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, United States; travel to defense contractors’ facilities, out-of-state test sites, and other locations as needed.

What you will do

• Develop and plan test strategies, test plans, test procedures, test cards, and test reports for new or modified weapon systems.
• Conduct test events and prepare event reports using knowledge of military test ranges, flight safety, scheduling, and airspace restrictions.
• Lead multidisciplinary test teams including engineers, data scientists, technicians, maintenance staff, schedulers, pilots, and aircrew.
• Manage schedules for multiple concurrent test lines and aircraft operations.
• Plan hardware and software test series and missions while coordinating aircraft modifications and special test equipment.
• Interface with weapon-system prime contractors and government System Program Offices on objectives, schedules, budgets, and test methods.

Requirements

• Active Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenship required.
• Master’s degree in an applicable discipline, preferably mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering.
• 10+ years of flight-test experience, including F-16 flight-test experience.
• Strong knowledge of professional engineering concepts and test-and-evaluation techniques for weapon systems.
• Effective oral and written communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with operational or developmental test organizations.
• Experience with range operations, safety, scheduling, and airspace use.
• Knowledge of Eglin-based flight-test processes, especially Developmental Test and Evaluation.
• Flight Safety Course, Weapons School, or Test Pilot School experience; Air Force or Navy Test Pilot School graduation is highly desired.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
