Software Engineer 2 or 3 (Machine Learning/AI)

Location: Laurel, Maryland; onsite. United States citizenship and a position-appropriate security clearance, such as active TS/SCI with agency-appropriate polygraph, are required.

Salary: $64.04–$136.27 per hour, before benefits.

What you will do

• Develop, enhance, and prototype compliance and business-processing analytics, automation tools, and data flows.
• Investigate, integrate, and test machine learning and AI algorithms, including research proof-of-concepts.
• Build models and implement metrics and monitoring for developed tools and functions.
• Analyze requirements, design software, develop new features, debug defects, and improve system performance.
• Design complex algorithms and database or data-repository interfaces while meeting timing, resource, and interface constraints.
• Lead and coordinate software development teams, delegate programming and testing responsibilities, and ensure quality control.

Requirements

• United States citizenship and TS/SCI clearance with an agency-appropriate polygraph.
• For Software Engineer 2: 14 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• For Software Engineer 3: 20 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or four additional years of relevant software engineering experience in place of the degree.
• Experience with Python, Java, Scala, Linux, SQL, JSON, Lucene, JEXL, Scikit-learn, Random Forest feature development, and machine learning model building and monitoring.
• Experience with GM Learn, Jira, Confluence, Ghostmachine Map/Reduce, Jupyter Notebooks, IntelliJ or Eclipse, Git/GitLab or Stash/Bitbucket, agency compliance standards, and corporate systems.

Nice to have

• Data science background and experience implementing machine learning systems.
• Experience with AWS and Spark.
• Experience with agentic AI, large language models, and other machine learning models and techniques.
