Salary: $7,651 per month minimum, negotiable based on education and experience

What you will do

  • Lead, plan, implement, and evaluate campus environmental health and safety programs.
  • Oversee industrial hygiene, laboratory safety, occupational safety, environmental compliance, hazardous materials, and emergency response programs.
  • Manage hazardous waste, chemical inventories, hazardous materials shipping, Tier II reporting, inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Assess indoor air quality and workplace exposures, and review construction and renovation plans for safety and environmental compliance.
  • Supervise, train, and develop staff while managing departmental budgets, expenditures, and operational reports.
  • Represent EHS to university leadership, committees, regulatory agencies, external partners, and the public.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Sixteen years of experience in environmental health and safety, including two years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of TCEQ, TDSHS, and NFPA regulations.
  • Experience interacting with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety equipment relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure.

Nice to have

  • Five years of progressively responsible management experience in a higher education safety organization.
  • Texas licenses such as Asbestos Management Planner, Asbestos Inspector, Mold Assessment Consultant, or Sanitarian.
  • Master’s degree in industrial hygiene, environmental management, safety, or a related field.
  • Certifications in radiation safety, fire safety, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or hazardous materials.
