Location: Frederick, MD, USA; onsite at Ft Detrick. The work schedule may include weekend and holiday hours.
Salary: $48,200–$68,908 annual full-time equivalent.

What you will do
- Conduct parts of or complete in vivo studies involving tumorigenesis, toxicity, PK/PD, cancer treatment, and vaccine efficacy.
- Manage rodent colonies, breeding strategies, genotyping results, and the TOPAZ animal colony database.
- Administer experimental compounds and chemical carcinogens through subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, intravenous, and oral gavage routes.
- Monitor animal phenotypes and treatment responses, collect tumor measurements and body weights, and maintain accurate electronic records.
- Perform necropsies and collect blood and tissue samples.
- Coordinate study details and schedules with technical staff, core facilities, investigators, management, and other team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or Veterinary Technology, or equivalent education and technical experience qualifying the candidate to sit for the LATG certification exam within 12 months of hire.
- Experience managing genetically engineered mouse models and rodent breeding colonies.
- Proficiency with rodent techniques, including injections, blood and tissue collection, and compound administration.
- Experience with tumor models and knowledge of animal-facility standard operating procedures and ACUC guidelines.
- Ability to maintain precise records across software platforms, communicate in a demanding scientific environment, lift up to 50 lbs., and use respiratory protection when required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.
Nice to have
- Experience with cancer treatment or vaccine studies in rodents.
- Experience preparing medicated water and chemicals.
- LAT certification and ability to pass the LATG exam within 12 months.
- Strong time management, organization, multitasking, and written and oral communication skills.
