TL;DR
RN, Registered Nurse - Oncology Care Unit (OCU) (Oncology): Providing direct nursing care to oncology patients and their families with an accent on clinical assessment, individualized care planning, patient education, and discharge coordination. Focus on evaluating changing patient needs, applying evidence-based nursing practice, delegating assignments, and supporting staff development through precepting.

Location: Lowell General Hospital, Oncology - Main Campus, Lowell, Massachusetts. Evening shift is 3–11 PM, with weekend and holiday work required.

Pay range: $37.50–$68.47 per hour.

What you will do

  • Provide direct professional nursing care to oncology patients and their families according to physician orders, policies, and established procedures.
  • Conduct and document accurate clinical assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
  • Use nursing judgment to adapt care plans to patient needs and changing health statuses.
  • Educate patients and families, support informed decisions and advance directives, and coordinate discharge planning with appropriate referrals.
  • Manage patient assignments through effective delegation based on patient needs and team member skills.
  • Support new staff transitions, precept department staff, participate in committees, and contribute to performance improvement and evidence-based practice.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts RN licensure required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Relevant department-specific certifications may be required.
  • RN experience must meet the requirements for the applicable career pathway level: Level I requires less than 12 months; Level II requires 12 months to less than 3 years; Level III requires 3 to less than 8 years; Level IV requires 8 years.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and the healthcare team.
  • Ability to apply the nursing process, perform prolonged standing and walking, and occasionally lift or turn patients weighing 30–35 lbs.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
