Research Associate II, Gene Editing

What you will do

• Design and build reagents for gene-editing experiments.
• Test gene-editing reagents in cultured cells using sterile techniques.
• Isolate nucleic acids from edited cells and perform downstream molecular biology assays, including quantitative PCR.
• Prepare DNA input and sequencing libraries for high-throughput Illumina sequencing.
• Analyze and interpret gene-editing experiment results.
• Manage laboratory ordering and inventory.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biomedical research or a related field, or four years of equivalent experience; foreign degrees require U.S. equivalency evaluation.
• At least five years of job-related microbiological and molecular biology experience.
• Experience maintaining and manipulating cultured cells with sterile techniques.
• Experience designing and performing PCR experiments.
• Meticulous note-taking and accurate record keeping.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with zinc finger nucleases, TALENs, or CRISPR gene-editing technologies.
• Experience preparing Illumina sequencing libraries and cloning plasmid DNA.
• In vitro RNA transcription and mammalian tissue culture experience.
• Basic ability to run Python code and scripts.
• Primary-author publications, oral presentations, strong written and oral communication, and organizational skills.
